Das Boot
This review is of the Emmy award winning film; Das Boot, starring Jürgen Prochnow, Herbert Grönemeyer, and Klaus Wennemann. Directed and released in 1981 by Wolfgang Petersen this is the chronological story that takes place in the early periods of WWII during the height of the battle for the Atlantic. In a gripping and impressively detailed account this is a story of perseverance by a German crew of Submarine Sailor's attempting impossible missions against all odds in the blind. The story follows this crew of hardened war veterans from their last hoo rah on shore prior to a war mission, to depth bombings on patrol, to a port call, to their eventual yet unexpected deaths after death defying feats of courage and luck. The cinematography was essential to the success of this film as it gave audiences a glimpse inside the cramped quarters of a WWII war machine.
